Seriously! That is probably what most grabbed me about this show — the utter horror represented by the titans. I’m so impressed by how Production IG managed to 1) convey the sheer weight and mass of these things, something anime often doesn’t do very convincingly, and 2) design the titans simultaneously to be very individualized and realistic — their bodies and facial features are sort of ordinary and schlubby, with no two alike — but with subtly wrong proportions that take them straight into the uncanny valley. And also, as observed by a guy in the anime club I attend, except for a couple of notable exceptions, most of them don’t look like they have two brain cells to rub together. They’re just kind of doing the titan equivalent of wandering through and grabbing a Coke from the fridge.
